One of the main challenges in the digital transformation of broadcasters is the lack of consistent metadata—both in archives and in current video productions. Yet metadata is the foundation for automation, targeted recommendations, and a personalized user experience.

Metadata – Automation for Personalization 

A new metadata framework enhances content structuring and personalization. Based on this framework, both technical systems and editorial workflows were established to enable consistent capture and management of metadata. Qvest and ZDF define the metadata concept and the necessary taxonomy and implemented the operational workflows to gather the new metadata of the entire archive and daily produced content. More than 50,000 archived content pieces were systematically processed and enriched.

The generated metadata on genre, subgenre, publication form, main topics and mood of the content are a significant step towards personalized content, efficient searchability and intelligent content structuring.
