Vodafone faces significant challenges in adapting to rapidly evolving consumer behaviors driven by social media and technological advancements. Additionally, managing a diverse app portfolio on diverse platforms by simultaneously differentiating its platforms without sports rights requires delivering a flawless product experience and top-notch QA and operations across all devices to stay competitive with industry leaders. 

Our contribution & solution

1. Consulting: App store PMO, innovation PMO

Our consulting work for Vodafone involved transforming GigaTV with relevant innovations and providing guidance and expertise for their product strategy. 

  • App store PMO: As Vodafone’s PMO, we aligned and identified both existing and new projects with Vodafone's strategic goals, providing support and guidance throughout the entire project lifecycle. We managed resources, tracked utilization, collected status updates and maintained a knowledge repository.
     
  • Innovation PMO: We advised the customer regarding trends, conducted several workshops using design thinking methods and prototyping, analyzed existing products and promising product ideas with in depths market research and in comparison to Vodafone personas.

 

2. Custom development: App development on diverse platforms (incl. Lightning)

  • We developed a custom TV app for Vodafone, creating the TV-optimized FUSSBALLNAVIGATOR based on the TVXRAY Sports concept, serving as the Vodafone Sports Hub. This app allows users to watch all football matches with overlays for discovering matches, live statistics, and league/tournament information.
  • Initially developed using the Metrological Application Framework for Horizon STB and Lightning Framework for GigaTV STBs Gen 1 , the technology was later updated to ES5 HTML5 with self-hosting at Qvest, launching in time for EURO 2024 for GigaTV STB Gen2.

 

3. Quality assurance: Testing and operation

  • QA is a critical component of delivering a flawless product experience. Based in Hamburg, our QA team utilizes a state-of-the-art TV wall with over 100 different TV models to conduct extensive testing.
  • This rigorous testing process ensures that Vodafone's services provide a high-quality and consistent user experience across all devices. Our focus on QA guarantees that the application meets the highest standards of performance and reliability.

Outcome & customer benefits

Our efforts significantly enhanced Vodafone’s entertainment offering, aligning with their strategic goals and establishing robust communication with partners to ensure client satisfaction. We increased the pace and success of app store projects, reduced call volume through quality assurance, and centralized knowledge on diverse Generations of Set-Top-Boxes and its technical frameworks leading to higher project success rates by mitigating risks and addressing issues early.
